Loki Book Tag

I did mention this post and I have tried to write this when this went live, but my answers were so long and complex that I went "Let me do something lighter", hence why I did the Moody Reader Book Tag instead. Plus, I kinda wanted to do this after I had watched Disney+ Loki. And, in typical me style, I haven't watched it. Hell, I haven't finished WandaVision as it's so wonderful, I can't. I just can't! So, here I am, diving into this, knowing nothing barring what I read on socials (so, in other words, mostly everything!)

This tag was made by Erik from Breakeven Books and all questions are inspired by the TV show, so brace yourselves!!!

1. Mischief - a book with a mischievous character
I'm not sure why but Puck from The Iron Fey series instantly jumped to mind when I first read this question. Not sure why as I read the first two instalments of this series, The Iron King and The Iron Daughter, YEARS ago. (I looked. Ten. I read them in 2011.) Can't remember much about the books, if am being completely honest. So not sure why Puck's my answer. That or the fey in The Cruel Prince...maybe a reread is in order for both these books...

2. Variant 1 - show a book you have more than one version of
OR
3. Variant 2 - show a book series where you have multiple book editions in the series
Now, if I have understood the rules Erik's laid out, I can answer either one of these as they are kinda a hybrid of the same question (We're entering Doctor Who territory). So, I am going to answer Variant 1 as this is more me as I own how many books in more than one version. I have several with different covers, different formats (hardback, paperback, ebook, audiobook). I have several as one copy is signed by the author... So, hang on, let me take a deep breath... Harry Potter, A Discovery of Witches, Sabriel, City of Bones and City of Ashes, La Belle Sauvage... I would take photo to prove it but, at the time of writing this, my cat is on my lap and his claws are digging into my skin so can't move unless I want to see my blood...

4. Prune - A book that you recently got rid of or are planning to get rid of
I think you guys know I have no issue quitting books I don't like and, because of this, I get rid of plenty. I did a huge book cull a few months back. However, I did send another book blogger an Advance Reader Copy of Poison for Breakfast by Lemony Snicket. I know he will love this book, but it didn't work for me. I read a chapter and had an instant "Nope" reaction. Just wasn't for me.

5. Enchantment - a book that had you under a spell (a book you could not put down)
Instant answer jumped to mind here: Matt Cain's The Secret Life of Albert Entwistle. I just adore this book and, even now, I get happy feelings when I think about it. Just wonderful.

6. Timekeepers - Name a series that has stood the test of time (bonus points if it is a trilogy)
Oh, this might be a tough one to answer as some series do stand test of time, but authors do or say something and it takes the shine off. There are a few books I want to reread as I remember them so fondly but I want to reread them in case I am misremembering (Mirror Dreams by Catherine Webb is one). Am tempted to say The Hunger Games or The Sin Eater's Daughter as both are trilogies and, apparently, there are three timekeeper in the TV shows so am going to say that and move on.

7. Asgard - A book with royalty or god-like figures
I honestly thought I couldn't answer this question. I was struggling, but I did read How To Catch a Prince by Ana Ashley, an MM romance with the whole "Prince pretends to be regular guy and falls in love" troupe. But then I remembered The Windsor Knot by SJ Bennett, a cosy(ish) murder mystery starting Queen Elizabeth II, which I enjoyed HUGELY and intrigued on where this series is going to go.

8. Daggers - A book that cut you deep and made you emotional
I could easily say The Secret Life of Albert Entwistle, but that feels like a cheat as I have used it as an answer. Plus, it didn't really cut me deep. It gave me feels, but it didn't make me emotional. Actually, most books don't. I don't cry while reading. I get angry, I get hit in the feels, but never emotional/cry.

I do remember rereading The Old Kingdom series by Garth Nix via library audiobook app (I didn't have time to read at the time) and getting a little choked up when I was listening to the final chapter/epilogue of Abhorsen. So, shall we say that?

9. Illusion - A book you bought because you thought the cover was pretty but it ended up being bad
How much time do we have? We have all be sucked in by beautiful or eye catching covers, only to read them and go "What the hell?!". I can so easily make lists of books I have read that have drawn me in by the covers! SO GODDAMN MANY! And I am fairly certain I will be conned again. Am tempted to say The Sanatorium by Sarah Pearse, but that might be a tad cruel. It looks good and sounds intriguing, but not exactly what I was hoping for and I do wondering if I was a tad too harsh with it. Whisper Island by Carissa Ann Lynch... that book... The more I think of it, the more "meh/grrr" I get so let's leave it there.
