I've been sitting on writing this review for several reasons. The first is I
really needed to think about how I was going to write this. This book was SO GOOD, and yet, point out that there are trigger warnings to you guys. The second was time. I just didn't seem to have the time since I finished this book to actually write a review down. And the third was the recent news in the UK about ... yeah ...
Title and Author: Where The Light Goes by Sara Barnard
Publisher: Walker Books
Bought, Borrowed or Gifted: Gifted by Walker Books in exchange for an honest review/reaction.
To the world, she was superstar Lizzie Beck. But to Emmy, she was Beth, her cool older sister. But when Beth takes her own life, Emmy's world is turned upside down and she struggles with her overwhelming grief, trying to understand why and the media storm.
I finished reading this over a week ago, and I still can't stop thinking about it. It tackles strong issues such as grief, suicide, mental health and the toxic, dark side fame and social media, and while reading these is a sucker punch, Sara Barnard handles these with a sensitive touch (there were moments where I went "I thought/reacted the same way when [
redactived] died") and make it a utterly gripping and unputdownable read.
I still can't sum it up (hence why this is a mini-review!), but this is going to be one of my Best Reads of 2023, and I am desperate to read more from this author! I am currently eyeing up
Goodbye, Perfect.
