Nathalia Suellen Chats RoseBlood Cover Art

Today is my stop on the RoseBlood tour - my first blog tour of 2017! And I am so happy to welcome  Nathalia Suellen to the Pewter Wolf. Nathalia is a well-respected artist who created the cover art of A.G. Howard's RoseBlood. 

RoseBlood is a modern-day reimagining of The Phantom of the Opera. The story follows Rune, who has a voice of an angel but a strange affliction that leaves her sick after every performance. Her mother, out of desperation, sends Rune to a French arts school - RoseBlood conservatory - which connections to Phantom of the Opera. But once there, Rune starts to believe that something otherworldly is afoot. But is it in her head, or is there a Phantom lurking at RoseBlood? And if so, why is watching Rune?

The Birds & Don't Look Now - NEW COVERS!

Today, I (with a bunch of other bloggers via Twitter - not me. Stupid work!) am unveiling the new new covers for two collections of short stories by Daphne du Maurier, Don't Look Now and The Birds. 

Shall we have a look?

I quite like these! There's something classic about it and, I believe these are hardback so the covers will look very classy! 

I'm going through a weird phase of not wanting to read short stories but am very intrigued over these. But what about you? Do you like these covers? 

Winterkill's New Covers!

I am quite excited to be one of the bloggers to reveal the new covers for the Winterkill trilogy, written by Kate A. Boorman (published by Faber and Faber). I must thank Hannah for including me in this reveal as I still HAVEN'T ready Winterkill as of yet. I am planning to read this in the winter months. It just screams "Read me with snow and hot chocolate!".

Anyway, let me reveal the new covers for the first 2 books in the trilogy, Winterkill and Darkthaw!

Like I said, these books scream winter, right? Both look cold and creepy and I just can't believe I haven't started this series yet as everyone I know who has started this trilogy is raving about it!

Also, Hannah at Faber has given us a sneaky peek over the third and final cover in the trilogy, Heartfire. Now, this is a sneak peek so this isn't finished. A lot can change from now till the book's release so treat this cover with caution.

I have to admit, these covers are divine! The designer and illustrator, Will Steele and Helen Crawford-White, did a wonderful job! Am really excited to read the book and find out whether the covers match the insides of the books.

Rebel of the Sands - COVER REVEAL!

I am quite excited in being involved in this cover reveal. Faber is so excited over this book - this is gonna be their big book of next year! And after reading the first few chapters, I can't wait to read this!

So... are you ready to see the cover? Well... here it is!

Doesn't it look pretty? There's something evocative about the cover, and I have heard rumours that the gold will be foiled so the book will have that extra factor.

Also, the people at Faber have revealed a Gif to begin the hype of the book. But yes, I am very excited over this book and I can't wait to get my hands on this book next year!

Anyone Seen the New Harry Potter Cover?

As you guys know, Bloomsbury and other publishers round the world are publishing the first illustrated version of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone later this year. Now, I had a bit of a mixed reaction over some of the illustrations I have seen but you have to admit, the cover is beautiful! 

New TMI Covers

Last week, Walker Books revealed that they were going to release new covers of The Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare. And they look pretty cool!

To me, These covers are more grown-up and shall appeal to new adult readers and crossover readers. The cover designs are, to my knowledge, is done by the same person who did the album cover for Coldplay's Ghost Stories and we love love that design. Cassandra herself love the designs and that pleases me.

Plus, as someone who needs to read the latter trilogy in the Mortal Instruments/Shadowhunters Chronicles (I view them as two trilogies), I need to get my rear in gear and read!

The Snow Child - New Cover and Extract!

As you should know, I am a huge fan of The Snow Child by Eowyn Ivey. I fell in love with this quietly beautiful book (I believe I actually used in my review in 2012 when this book was first published. If you want to read my review, check here!).

Anyway, I was on bookbridgr and I saw that they were doing a new cover and I had to get involved in showing it to you. So, here's the new cover!

Now, I love the original cover, but this is just as pretty! I love the eeriness of the footprints and the dash of red, but it still catches the magic of the story.

Also, bookbridgr has allowed me to show you guys an extract! I hope this wets your appetite (and I reread it and wailed "BOOK 2, EOWYN! I WANT YOUR NEXT BOOK NOW!!!)!

      The old people watched her and watched her. At last they went to bed; but more than once the old man got up in the night to make sure she was still there. And there she was, running about in the yard, chasing her shadow in the moonlight and throwing snowballs at the stars.

      In the morning she came in, laughing, to have breakfast with the old people. She showed them how to make porridge for her, and that was very simple. They had only to take a piece of ice and crush it up in a little wooden bowl. Then after breakfast she ran out in the road, to join the other children. And the old people watched her. Oh, proud they were,

         I can tell you, to see a little girl of their own out there playing in the road! They fairly longed for a sledge to come driving by, so that they could run out into the road and call to the little snow girl to be careful.

        And the little snow girl played in the snow with the other children. How she played! She could run faster than any of them.

       Her little red boots flashed as she ran about. Not one of the other children was a match for her at snowballing. And when the children began making a snow woman, a Baba Yaga, you would have thought the little daughter of the Snow would have died of laughing. She laughed and laughed, like ringing peals on little glass bells. But she helped in the making of the snow woman, only laughing all the time.

      When it was done, all the children threw snowballs at it, till it fell to pieces. And the little snow girl laughed and laughed, and was so quick she threw more snowballs than any of them.

      The old man and the old woman watched her, and were very proud.

      ‘She is all our own,’ said the old woman.

      ‘Our little white pigeon,’ said the old man.

Cover Reveal - Memoirs of a Neurotic Zombie

Again, I am breaking my RSM silence. I know, I am REALLY BAD at this! But I was asked if I wanted to be part of the Memoirs of a Neurotic Zombie by Jeff Norton and I jumped at it. I know - no will power!

Reason for this: when I was at the Faber's Blogger's Event earlier this year, Jeff read a tiny snippet from this book and everyone in the room was howling with laughter! It's one of those books I knew I needed to read soon - and I HATE zombie books (as you are probably aware!)

So, I have a cover to reveal and, with special thanks from Hannah at Faber, I have a tiny snippet to reveal to you! 1.       Of course, no one had thought to bury me with a set of house keys. When I finally made my way home, with the driest throat ever, I ding-donged the doorbell like I was trick-or-treating at my own house…and waited.

And waited.

It was a balmy Sunday morning. The gentiles were in church, Mom was in the back yard replanting her flowerbeds and Dad was probably on the fourteenth hole.

Ding Dong, I rang again.

Finally, the front door swung open and Mom just froze. She didn’t scream. She didn’t faint. She just stood there. I mean, she was probably expecting to be sold a box of girl guide cookies or sign a petition to put air bags in school buses, not to see her only son back from the dead – 100 per cent zombified.

Or, as I now like to say, zomtastic!

‘Adam, is…it…you?’ she stuttered, wiping the garden dirt on her jeans before reaching for a hug.

I put out my arms to hold her back. ‘oooh, Mom, maybe you should wash your hands properly,’ I said. But because my mouth was so dry, what came out was ‘Aaargh Uuurgh Ooooh.’

Cover Reveal - Come Back To Me

I know. I know I am meant to be on my RSM break. So I shouldn't be blogging. However, the lovely author Mila Gray (aka Sarah Alderson) is releasing a New Adult novel and asked if I wanted to be part of the cover reveal. I HAVE A COVER REVEAL FOR YOU GUYS! Well, that, a question/answer and a sneaky peek of Zoe Marriott's newest book, Darkness Hidden.

So, Walker is changing the covers to The Name of the Blade series. And as you guys know, The Night Itself was one of my fave books of last year. I adore it SO MUCH!!! So, I had to be involve with this reveal. IT WOULD BE A CRIME IF I DIDN'T!!!

So, without any further ado, here are the new covers to The Night Itself and Darkness Hidden!

TA-DAH!!! What do you guys think? I can't help but LOVE them! I now want to sit and nitpick over them for clues within the book/series.

BUT WAIT!!! I have more goodies for you. Zoe was very kind and answered one question for the blogs involved in this reveal (aka the awesome Winged Reviews, Serendipity Reviews, Readaraptor & Book Angel Booktopia!) and here is mine.

Question: Does the series has a theme song or several songs that really strike Zoe as perfect for the series as a whole?

Answer: The Name of the Blade series has its own weird and wonderful playlist. I create playlists for everything that I write and most of them are at least a couple of hours long. But because this is the first story I've written with a contemporary setting, it's very different. It's the first time that I've written to lots of contemporary, electronic music (rather than more high fantasy sounding, classical stuff). I was really trying to find a strong, modern voice for Mio and the right music helped with that. The main theme song for the series is The Girl in Byakkoya/White Tiger Field by Susumu Hirasawa from the anime film Paprika. When I was writing the first book I always sat and listened to it for a bit before I started work because it summed up the manic, intense, but slightly whimsical mood I was going for. Other songs that are significant are Vertical Storm - also by Susumu Hirasawa - Robyn's With EveryHeartbeat, and Alibi by 30 Seconds to Mars. The last two will make sense when you read the second and third books... *Evil Laughter*

“I was ready an hour ago,” Rachel said as she stomped forward.

Jack moved past me with Hikaru. They weren’t looking at each other, and Hikaru’s expression was forlorn. Shinobu and I followed, walking side by side but with a careful distance between us.

We’re all pathetic.

I could see the rift into the mortal realm taking shape on the grassy side of the little hill. Long streamers of blue lightning blew out of the earth, dancing in the air and then catching hold of others as they emerged, entwining to form a glowing wreath. When the ring of electricity was complete, the grass it encircled faded out of existence, leaving a gaping black hole in the slope.

Rachel walked right into the rift, leaving the bright light of the spirit realm for the darkness of Between without a backward glance.

Jack bit her lip. “This never gets any easier. I wish I could make my own fox lights.”

“You’re not the only one,” Hikaru whispered, so low that I thought only I heard him.

Did he mean that he wished Jack was a fox spirit, like him? Or just that he wished he were older and more powerful, able to control his lightning the way the others did? I had no way of knowing, and somehow I didn’t think he’d appreciate being asked.

Jack nodded a respectful goodbye to Araki, squared her shoulders, and stepped after Rachel. I moved forward, hyper-conscious of Shinobu silently shadowing me. My instincts were begging me to sneak a quick look at his expression, but the rest of me shied away in sheer embarrassment. I couldn’t understand why this was so hard.

“Farewell, sword-bearer,” the king said, appearing again – OK, that was getting freaky – on the crown of the hill overhead. “I wish you good fortune, and offer a piece of advice. Keep a close eye on your friend’s sister. She may have trying times ahead of her.”

Before I could ask what he was getting at, the king’s head snapped up. A deep shudder worked through his body, making his vast fan of tails lash the air; their white tips blazed into jagged blue cones of lightning. Araki took a step back, one hand flying up to cover her mouth.

“Grandfather?” Hikaru began uncertainly.

My katana shrilled – a fierce, high-pitched tone that vibrated along my vertebrae. Without thinking I reached back to grab the hilt, ready to draw the blade. My blood tingled and my heartbeat surged as my palm made contact with the silk wrappings. Then I froze. What am I doing? I whipped my hand away and stared at it for a moment as I flexed my fingers to confirm that they were under my control.

The ground jumped under my feet. Beyond Araki, the other side of the throne erupted with electricity. A new rupture. A small crowd of Kitsune – four of them, none older than a two-tails – stumbled out. They were ashen-faced and covered in dirt; one of them, splattered with blood, was clutching at her arm. She collapsed face-first into the grass and lay there, gasping for air and shaking with what looked like agony. The others hastily drew away from her.

Araki darted forward, falling to her knees beside the Kitsune girl. I saw with horror that the girl’s twin tails were withering, the lush reddish fur turning powdery grey and shredding off before our eyes. Horror turned to disbelief when the dignified Araki threw back her head and let out a terrible wail.

The Kitsune who had come through the rupture with the injured fox spirit picked up the note, their voices joining into a low, wavering keen of sorrow. The noise spread through the amphitheatre, celebrations dying away as the whole assembly of fox spirits fell still in the aching song of grief.

“What’s happening to her?” I cried out over the wailing. “Can’t someone help her?”

Hikaru didn’t even look at me. He lifted his face to the canopy of trees above and howled.

I felt Shinobu’s hand grasping mine, trying to pull me towards the rift. I shook my head, yanking free. I couldn’t leave. They needed help!

The king’s tails flicked in my direction. It was as if a massive hand had scooped me up and tossed me straight at the waiting blackness of the open rupture. I tumbled inside. Shinobu landed half on top of me with an Oof.

“Wait!” I shouted, struggling to get up.

It was too late. The light had vanished and the rupture closed.

The Kitsune Kingdom was gone.

Cover Reveal for BLACK DOG

Ooops! For some reason, this didn't go up at 5pm as I asked it to. Weird. Oh well...

Cover Reveal of SECRET

Oh, hello! Today is the day where Brigid Kemmerer can reveal the cover for the fourth book in the Elemental series. And I am one of the few who is very honored to show you the new cover. And as someone who is getting into the series, the reveal is quite exciting for me. So, here is the cover and a summary for Secret. TA-DAH!

So... what do you guys this? I am VERY intriguied over the cover as it is so different from the others in the series (this includes the Novellas). For a start, we have Quinn on the cover and no signs of the Merrick brothers or Hunter. The background is different from the others (we have an actual scene, rather than smokey mist). And, unlike the other covers, the title isn't written in white but in yellow. Are these clues? 

Let the fandom rip the cover apart for clues and over the fact Brigid has revealed that Secret is her most steamiest book to date. BRING IT ON!!!

My lovely friends at Stranger Chemistry have a cover reveal for you. Well... two, actually. That's right, TWO! One is a sequel of a book most of you guy have read (and that's still in my To Read pile) and the other is a book I am very excited over.

THE WOKEN GODS Cover Reveal

Ooops! Meant to put this up at around two but I was mowing the lawn, so here I am, quickly writing this up. I am taking part in the cover reveal for The Woken Gods by Gwenda Bond. So... here's the cover:

What do you think? I really like it. It has a Percy Jackson meets Cassandra Clare with a dash of Dan Brown. Plus, there are Egyptian Gods on the cover! I love ancient Egyptian mythology! And, at the moment, this is perfect read for me!

MORE THAN THIS Cover Reveal

Earlier today/yesterday/outside of the Tardis, Walker Books revealed the cover for Patrick Ness's new novel, More Than This. Ready? TA-DAH!

Very different from his Chaos Walking trilogy covers. And gives nothing away! Which is fine with me because, as much as I want to read this, I want to know very little/nothing at all about this book. I want to go into it blind. And I plan to read The Knife of Never Letting Go (a book that has been in my To Read pile for a VERY long time!) before I attack this beast which is released in the UK, US and Australia at the same time in September. 

Ah, screw it! The publishers has sent me a Press Release and am going to read it. And am going to copy and paste the good bits. So, ready? Here we go... 

A boy called Seth drowns, desperate and alone in his final moments, losing his life as the pounding sea claims him. But then he wakes. He is naked, thirsty, starving. But alive. How is that possible? We have a cover for Neil Gaiman's new children's book, Fortunately The Milk, and it is bright! Got your sunglasses at the ready? One... two... three...!

I warned you it was bright! And doesn't it look nuts and awesome!? This looks like one that will delight children of all ages (and yes, this does include you adult-baby folk!). Sadly, we have to wait till September. SEPTEMBER!

Another Nightshade Book Alert!

I haven't even read Rift by Andrea Cremer yet and she goes and reveals that she's written a FOURTH book in the Nightshade series. That's right. A FOURTH! So, she's written a prequel series, this series and is going to write an erotica adult series. And then, just when we thought we were safe, she throws us this curveball (but I shouldn't be surprised. She hinted at this a while ago. I even blogged about it)! 

Anyway, the fourth book will be called Snakeroot and Andrea has revealed the following on Bookish: "Snakeroot focuses on Adne's struggles to adjust to the post-Witches War world of the Searchers. She's plagued by disturbing dreams and visions, all of which draw her to the gardens of Rowan Estate. The cover image perfectly depicts the way in which Adne has become entangled by her own turbulent emotions and an encroaching dark magic."

The cover she is talking about is the US cover, which was revealed at the same time of the news. And here it is for you US peeps out there! 

I'm gonna be honest here: this isn't how I imagined Adne. But then, I don't exactly like the US covers to this series. I much prefer the UK covers (And before you ask, I have just tweeted Atom and, hopefully, shall get a reply soon). 

So, my Nightshade fans! Reactions? Are you exited to go back into the world of Adne and see the aftermath of the Witches War? 

Infinityglass Cover Reveal!

As you guys are aware, I loved Hourglass by Myra McEntire and I am waiting for the PERFECT time to read its sequel, Timepiece. Yes, I am waiting for the perfect time and yes, I know this makes me sound weird. Anyway, on Wednesday, Myra unveiled the cover to the third book in the series, Infinityglass, and... here it is!

Doesn't it look creepy and yet, fit the series perfectly? I think it's her arms and back that creep me out!

No information has been revealed, to my knowledge. Not even who's point of view is telling the story (Emerson told Hourglass and Kaleb told Timepiece). All I know is that the book will be out on 9th July (thanks Emma!) and, as we still don't have a UK publisher for this series, I will be ordering it online in the next few days...

COVERS!!!

Why hello! Thank you for popping over on this wet Sunday. Why am I writing this on a Sunday, I hear you ask? Well, COVERS! I've been a bit slow on the Cover front and I thought I would show some new covers that have been revealed and go "OOOH! SHINY!" over them.

First of all, is Zoe Marriott's The Night Itself. This will be the first book in a trilogy entitled The Name of the Blade. The Night Itself is about Mio, who steals her grandfather's priceless katana to make her fancy dress costume. But in doing so unleashes an ancient evil onto the streets of modern day London and only Mio can stop it... Cool, huh? I only got into Zoe with Frostfire so this is gonna be awesome. And here is her cover:

Sticking with Walker Books, the cover of Rob Lloyd Jones's Wild Boy have been revealed a few days ago. This book, set in Victorian London, follows a travelling circus who have a Wild Boy - a boy completely covered in hair. A boy who watches people and spots things no one else does. A boy who who gets accused of murder and must run, not only from the Police, but towards the truth... I can't wait to read this!

Sticking with red coloured covers (just trying to keep the follow going), Strange Chemistry unveiled its May publication, Zenn Scarlett by Christian Schoon. Zenn is training to be a exoveterinarian (a vet for aliens). Her training on Mars is going really well... until animal escapes start happening, which Zenn finds herself blamed for. And then her father vanishes...

And last, but by no means least, is the second novel from one of my fave authors of last year, Tanya Byrne. Follow Me Down follows Adamma, who is forced to leave her glossy high school in New York to a dusty boarding school in the UK. Things look awful, until she meets Scarlet and the two instantly hit it off. Best friends, until a guy comes between them. The battle lines are drawn. And then Scarlet runs away. But she didn't just run away because she didn't get the guy... right?

Harken Cover Reveal

I "kinda" mentioned this earlier in the week (well, I stole a This Week in YA video... [click here to have a look]). Well, yesterday, Kaleb Nation reveal the cover to his new novel, Harken.

So, my dear readers, reactions. Do you guys like? I'm intrigued over the scales and as I'm trying hard not to read any info about this book... I know, am weird!
