4 Weeks of Summer - The Lost and the Found

This was last month's Bookish Brits Book Club Book of the Month (you might have seen my review clips on the channel), but here I am, writing it up to the best of my abilities, so bear with me while I get all my thoughts and feels into this post.

Faith's whole life has been dominated by her older sister, Laurel's, disappearance. Faith was four and Laurel was six, and Faith has known no difference. The media storm around her family and herself as she grew up, saw her parents split up and trying to deal with so called friends.

Thirteen years ago, Laurel was snatched. And now... now, she has come back.

The happy ever after everyone hoped for and wanted. But what happens next? And why is Faith suddenly feeling isolated and paranoid?

Now, I have read all bar one of Cat Clarke's books and I have really enjoyed reading them. I love Cat's writing style, where she makes you sped through the book while writing from a character who you might not be so thrilled to spend time with. And this book is no different to her others. Fast pace and you will speed through the pages. I read this with 5 days (four, technically as I had a day off playing with Bagheera and spending time with my other half!) so the pacing is good and strong.

However - yes, there is a however. And it's a big however from me. As someone who reads quite a bit of crime thrillers (and watches a heck of a lot of crime TV dramas), I felt that this book was very predictable. I knew where the story was going to go almost from the word go. And it annoyed me that I guessed correctly where the story was going. It made me like the book less.

But saying that though, the last few pages redeemed the book for me. It became, in a sense, the most important part of the book, the last 3 or so pages.

While it might have been my fave Cat Clarke, it was a fast addictive read.

Pick My Next Read

Normally, I don't normally post my videos for Bookish Brits up here but I thought, with this video, I'll make an expectation.

In this video, I ask for the Bookish Brits subscribors to pick my next read. And now, I am throwing it out there to you guys as well!

As you can see from the video, I have 12 books - TWELVE!!! - books to choose from and barring two or three books that I am going to read in the coming weeks, NO MATTER WHAT, I know you guys have excellent taste in books. So, am showing you the video and hoping you guys pick a good book to read.

Plus, if this is a success, I will do it again (I know I do this via Twitter sometimes, but doing it via YouTube or blog would be fun as well!)

Ok, boring stuff now, you have till 6pm this Friday to vote as am going to record the winner on Saturday so I can upload it on Sunday. You can comment here or on the YouTube page and you can pick more than one book in your comments, but I will be going for the book with the most votes so don't hold it against me if I choose the wrong book.

Oh, the list! It is (in case you are too lazy to watch the video) is this:

PERCY JACKSON AND THE LIGHTENING THIEF by Rick Riordan
TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD by Harper Lee A COURT OF THORNS AND ROSES by Sarah J MaasTHE BONE SEASON by Samantha ShannonCITY OF FALLEN ANGELS by Cassandra ClareGRASSHOPPER JUNGLE by Andrew SmithTHIS BOOK IS GAY by James DawsonTHE SCORPIO RACES by Maggie StiefvaterTHE MINIATURIST by Jessie BurtonFANGIRL by Rainbow RowellA GAME OF THRONES by George RR MartinI'LL GIVE YOU THE SUN by Jandy Nelson

And that's it! Was going to write a blog post about my reading slump using gifs of Gloria from Modern Family (my latest DVD obsession!), but it's a tad late now so might save it for the weekend. But I shall leave you with this gif...

Thank you for reading/watching/voting and everything else!

Bookish Brit Alert!

I have news. Weird news but NEWS! I am now becoming a member of the Bookish Brits team!

Ok, the random story behind it. I was asked AGES ago if I wanted to join, but I got scared of videos, my voice, the horror that is editing videos so I said no, but offered to do guest videos. After watching one of the group's videos (I think it was Fiona's Books On My Kindle I Still Haven't Read Yet [here's the video in question] and Michelle's reply of My Unread Kindle Reads [Video is here for your pleasure]) I just laughed and went "THAT'S NOTHING! You haven't seen my kindle!". Like this gif, if you want an mental image...

So, asking their Twitter if I could record my unread kindle list, they said "Sure, go for it...". So, quickly recorded a video (it took a while as my Kindle list was longer than I thought!) and sent it to Michelle via email. A few days later, I decided to do two more videos, just because. One was a Book Tower Challenge and the other was a question about a Harry Potter character (let's keep some surprise, shall we?)

These were meant to be guest vlogs. That's all.

Expect... Michelle asked if I wanted to become a full-time member again. And this time, I thought "I had fun doing these videos. Not sure why, but why not!".

So, I am now the tenth member of Bookish Brits. Which basically means once a fortnight, I have to record and upload a video (I have three already, but I think Michelle or Caroline will upload for me. If not, I am screwed as I think I have deleted them from my computer...).

So, my "First" video will be end of October/beginning of November...

And I hope to make my videos cool enough to be worthy of the channel. So, my videos (I hope) will be a nice mix of bookish things (reviews, tags [within reason], discussions, reading music and my love of all things geeky and food & tea/coffee-related). Which means I have to read books that I will review here and maybe not review here. Books that might include reactions like these:

Sorry, a mix of emotions. But yes, I will be reading books that will either contain these emotions or I will react like this. Sorry in advance.

But I sense you guys who will be watching my videos will be shouting this at your computer screen:

And after that, I will be begging viewers to come back to the channel as my videos are driving everyone away!

But please stay and watch me joining the team! If you want to watch, go to YouTube.com/BookishBrits and subscribe (that would be lovely of you). You can follow them on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Tumblr as well.

Now, because I have wasted your time with this news, I shall leave you with one more gif and I think you'll love me because of it...
