The Pledge UK & US Covers

As you guys know, I love Kimberly Derting. I simply love the Body Finder series and I know I have got several people into this series! So, when I discovered that Kimberly had written a dystopian novel, The Pledge, I got very excited, but could find no information on if this book was coming to the UK.

Recently, the UK cover has been revealed (the UK publisher is Allison & Busby, the UK home for the Morganville Vampires series by Rachel Caine) and I thought I would do a compare of the UK & the US covers!

I love both of them. I have a copy of the US (I didn't know till a few weeks ago that we were going to get this in the UK and am going to read soon!) and I love the gothicness of the US cover. However, I love how the UK cover is white. It feels rare to see a white book cover!

But what do you guys think? Do you prefer the dark US cover or the white UK cover?

Andrea Cremer Cover Change

As you guys know that I loved Nightshade by Andrea Cremer, I feel I should report on this. Over the weekend, Andrea revealed the new US covers for Nightshade and Wolfbane. Now, for those of you who haven't seen them, am going to show you them now.

Am going to be honest with you. I really don't like the new covers. I'm sorry, but I don't! The new cover of Nightshade, to me, looks like a tacky. Maybe it's me, but I prefer the old covers (see below). The cover change will be happening in the US, not sure whether the UK publishers, Atom, will change the covers. Will tweet them and find out...



But what do you guys prefer? New cover or old?

GoodRead - UK Cover vs US Cover

As some of you know if you go back through my blog, I read the WAKE trilogy by Lisa McMann. Loved that trilogy, even though I have seen other people's reaction to the final book in the trilogy - GONE - got very mixed reactions.

And now, in the USA, Lisa's new novel has hit bookshelves. It's called CRYER'S CROSS. But, when it hits the UK in the summer (Lisa McMann tweeted me that it was Summer, not March as was first told), it will have a title changed called THE MISSING (no idea why. I tweeted Lisa [@lisa_mcmann] to ask if she knew why and she said the UK publisher decided to.)

Anyhow, let's compare the covers. Let's start with the US version with the true title, CRYER'S CROSS...



And now, to the UK cover with the new title, THE MISSING...



Ok, before I go anyway, I must state one thing first: I HATE THE TITLE CHANGE! I prefer CRYER'S CROSS to THE MISSING! To me, CRYER'S CROSS just sounds darker and creepier than THE MISSING.

Now, the covers... am torn. Don't get me wrong. I really like the US cover. It's dark and edgy and there is a "READ ME NOW!" vibe to it. But it's very similar to the WAKE trilogy covers and I worry that people will look at it and go "Oh. It's another WAKE book." It's not. From what I've read on reviews and heard on audiobook teasers, it's nothing like WAKE.

However, I do like the UK cover. It's very art-like. And, from what I've read in reviews, the girl on the UK cover looks like the main character in this book, Kendall. But, as I haven't read the story, I have no idea if she does look like Kendall or not.

But, out of the two, I prefer the US cover. It's just creepy. Plus, it will go with the rest of the WAKE trilogy I have. So, yeah, selfish-ish reason. But what do you guys think? Do you prefer the US cover over the UK? And how do you feel about the titles? LET ME KNOW!

GoodRead - UK Cover vs US Cover

It feels like AGES since I did a UK Cover vs US Cover blog (just checked. It hasn't. Last time I did, it was the beginning of January this year). So, am going to try and do one here with an adult novel that I saw and I am planning to read soon - I hope.

The novel in question is THE POSTMISTRESS by Sarah Blake. So, here is the UK cover...

I like the US cover. But I prefer the UK. There's something about the UK cover that has an edge over it. No idea what. But I really prefer the UK cover.

GoodRead - UK Cover Vs US Cover

So, I really like Maggie Stiefvater (as you know). I mean, I love the Shiver trilogy (though I almost threw Linger across the room when I got to the end and am waiting for the third book in the series, Forever. I WANT IT NOW!) so, while I wait impatiently for Forever, Maggie's other series - Books of Faerie - will be published over the course of the next five/six months. The first book in the series is Lament (here is the link to see the covers for Lament), and the second book is Ballad (coming out in May 2011 - YEAH!!!).

If you want to know about this book, this is what is said about Ballad on Maggie Stiefvater's website.

In this sequel to Lament, faeries follow James and Dee to Thornking-Ash, where James struggles with his feelings for Dee and for the dangerous faerie muse, Nuala. When Halloween plunges both Dee and Nuala into danger, James finds he can only save one.

I love the UK cover. Sorry, but I do. I simply love it. I like the US cover with the burning leaf, but the UK cover has something edgy about it.

GoodRead - UK Cover Vs US Cover

Okay, now I know some of you guys from the USA know about the Soul Screamers series by Rachel Vincent, but it's only just going to hit the UK on 1st January 2011 by new imprint Mira Ink. Anyway, I've seen the cover and I had to show you the UK cover and show the US cover as well...

First of all, the UK cover is as scary as hell! Seriously! The cover alone will give me nightmares! But it's very Striking, isn't it? Whereas the US cover is very arty, plus I like the red.

Hmm... am not sure how I feel about this one. I think the UK cover has a slight edge about it. Maybe it's because it scares the do-dahs out of me! Or maybe if I even get this book (if I do, I think I will have to buy it online - I might get scared in the bookshop), I can scare people on the bus/train with it if I don't like the story...

*acts all innocent* Who? Me? NEVER! *laughs behind hand*

GoodRead - UK Cover Vs US Cover

As some of you know, I went to the Atom Books bloggers event where we were shown book covers and we all went hyper over them (what do you mean you have read my report? Click here to read it!)

Anyway, one of the books that held my attention was The Gathering (Book 1 in the Darkness Rising trilogy) by Kelley Armstrong. So, researching for info and cover art. And, as it so happens, I found the US cover also. So, let's compare!

Hmmm... gut instinct. The UK! I LOVE the UK cover! It looks so much more eye-catching than the US cover. I think it's because of the white - it's so REFRESHING to see a paranormal YA novel have a white cover rather than a dark, gloomly cover.

Though, saying that, I do like the little details of the US cover (mainly the earring), but, for me, it's the UK cover.

GoodRead - Old UK Cover Vs New UK Cover

So, as some of you know, I said I would read the Vampire Academy (because of people on Twitter BADGERING me to read it!) but I haven't. I just haven't. I read the taster of the first few chapters from the first Vampire Academy and it doesn't apply. But, I saw that the UK publishers are revamping the covers to this series and I thought I would get your opinion on it.

Now, I was going to show you all the covers, but because I have no idea how to do it as lovely as Once Upon A Bookshelf has, I will do the first book in the series, Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead.

Now, I know there are some of you that LOATHES the idea that the UK publisher has changed the cover when the LAST BOOK IN THE SERIES, is soon to be published. And I get that. I hate when my fave book series do that.

However, comparing these two covers, I prefer the new covers. Because of the Twitter-Badgering, I actually went into my local Waterstones and picked a copy. It was the old cover. And I hated it. Just hated it! The new cover is more intriguing to me.

But maybe I'm weird. So, guys, what do you think??? The Old VA or the New VA?

Last blog of the day, me thinks!

Anyway, this cover is for a book I've just entered a competition for (click here if you wanna enter!) and so, I thought I should do it!

The book is called Infinite Days by Rebecca Maizel. And yes, it is another vampire story. But ti looks darker and creepy than the normal YA vampire stories out on bookshelves at the moment.

Anyway, the covers! This is the UK cover...

Very different, aren't they? The UK cover, I suspect, is going for the dark, edgy feel of the book (how very vampire) whereas the US cover is going for a slightly different take.

You know, the more I see the US cover, the more I like it. I think it's the striking blue eyes and the silver tear. But I do prefer the UK cover.

Although, I have just seen the German cover for Infinite Days (or, as it is going to be called in German - The Night is Yours), and I LOVE THE COVER! But then, I do always like blue and underwater-feels to books...

I AM going to finish reading White Cat, the first book in the Curse Workers series by Holly Black. I PROMISE (damn, reader's Block!)! But, I just saw the UK cover of the sequel, Red Glove, and thought I better show you!!!

I like them both! NOT FAIR! But, unlike the UK cover for the White Cat, I really like the UK cover to the Red Glove. But there's something about the US cover I like to.

Okay, you guys know how much I like Maggie Stiefvater. I mean, I love the Shiver trilogy! But, I somehow missed Maggie's other series. I know it exist but, somehow, I missed that the UK publisher of Maggie, Scholastic, is publishing it in the new year.

For those of you who, like me, missed this news, here is info about this book from Magie's website.

No contest. I LOVE the UK cover. I think it's the red. So striking and very eye-catching! Very different compared to the dark cover of the US cover. Though, after some tiny reason (Amazon.co.uk), I get why the coves on the US cover.

But sorry, I prefer the UK cover.

It's been a while, but I have just found a UK cover for a book series that I have recently got into (not reading book 4 yet! And awaiting the collection of short stories then am overdosing myself on this series!) The series is Blue Bloods by Melissa de la Cruz and the book cover is for the fifth book in the series, "Misguided Angel".

Today's UK Cover Vs US Cover is for the book "The Curse Workers: White Cat" or "White Cat" (depending where you live) by Holly Black.

Now, I have heard good things about this book so I want to read this. And this would be my first Holly Black novel, so this book has A LOT to live up to.

But enough about me book-lushing, let's get on with the covers.

GoodRead - Book Cover Excitement (Blue Bloods) & UK Cover Vs US Cover

The British Publisher of the Blue Blood series - Atom Books - have revealed that cover to KEYS TO THE REPOSITORY (a collection of "revealing short stories, journal entries, and never-before-seen letters about the vampire elite dating back through time." [Well, that's what Amazon.co.uk says].) And here it is, with the back cover and the spine!



I quite like this. I'm not 100% sure about showing us Schuyler (I imagined her differently) but I do like that fact they showed us New York's nightlife!

Now, before I go too ahead of myself, let me remind you of the US cover for KEYS TO THE REPOSITORY. Just to refresh your memories...



Dang it. I like the US cover too! It's more mysterious that the UK, but I have to say that I like the UK cover more!

It seems to me that Atom, when they publish books, they seem to go a little further with them... Let's hope they don't let me down with a few books that I want to read that are coming out over the course of the year.

So, this blog will be of the audiobook I've started listening to (and has started to creep me out. And I'm not into chapter 8 yet!) - "Prophecy Of The Sisters" by Michelle Zink. Yes, I know this book has been out for a while in the US and in the UK so this is a teeny bit late. Oh well...

JUST SEEN THE UK COVER TO THIS BOOK THAT I WANT VERY VERY BADLY!!! (sorry for the cap freak out! But I've seen it just now and went mentally hyper!)

So, here is the UK cover that I've only just seen THIS VERY INSTANT!!!

I can't choose! I LOVE BOTH! I love the US cover due to the greens and the warm which is a stark difference to the US cover of Shiver (a cover I ADORE!!!) whereas the UK cover got my attention with the red paw-print.

I hate to say this, even though it took me a long time to like the US cover (due to the green), I love the UK cover (a shock for me, seeing as I dislike the UK cover of Shiver!).

Problem because I would like the US cover! WHAT DO I DO?! GET THE UK OR THE US COVER! Advise and tell me which cover YOU prefer!

It’s been a while since I’ve done this. Sorry about that! No real book covers have catch my eye and I didn’t want to do another LORD SUNDAY related blog so, I was a bit stuck. So, thank you Twitter (aka @atombooks) for promoting its new book “Blue Blood”! Cos, that’s what I’m going to do! So, here is the UK and US covers…

Ok, am going to be honest. When I first saw the UK cover (via the internet) it didn’t grip me. But I saw it in a book shop and I fell instantly in love with it. It held my attention and I actually picked up the book and read the back.

The US cover, though it looks different, looks quite cold (yes, this is a vampire novel so I get the “dead” look) but the UK cover grabs me more!

But you know what I like about both cover. They both look similar. You have the bare neck, the fangs marks (though they are different. The UK’s seem more how I imagine a vampire bit mark to be) and the pearls (sorry US cover, but the UK pearls PWN!)

But, the US cover reminds me a bit of the covers for the Mortal Instruments series, written by Cassandra Clare.

(Oh, I've just seen the sequel's - Masquerade - and, again, the UK wins it with me!)

GoodRead - UK Cover Vs US Cover

Sometimes, though not often, UK publishers change cover designs on books to get a wide appeal. This worked well in the UK with Kathy Reichs novels and other publishers are doing the same with other authors, like Tess Gerristen.

One series cover design that changed was the "Mortal Instrument" series by Cassandra Clare. For the first two book, there was a design of one of the characters face with a metal, rusty shine to it. But then, on the release of the third book in the series "City of Glass", the UK covers were changed to the US design on the book.

So, as a Cover Vs Cover isn't just a "UK vs US", it's a "Before Vs After".

So, this was the first design of "City of Glass", in keeping with the first UK covers of "City of Bones" and "City of Ashes":



And this is the design of "City of Glass" that the UK now has, which is the US cover as well:



Now, which cover do you guys prefer? Now, weirdly, I like both. I like the original UK cover because it was shocking to look at, yet in fitted perfectly with the first two covers. But there is an air of coldness of this cover, whereas the US cover (and the UK cover that we know) seems more engaging, but I can understand how some people felt when they got their hands on this book and discovered that it didn't match the rest of the series.

But I like both. I love the US (now UK) cover of "City of Bones". But what do you guys think? Leave a comment and let me know!
