It always feels like I am writing about my audiobook TBR. I keep banging on about several audiobooks that I will get to one day but never do. But, as this is the year that I want to try and read (in all forms) books that make me fulfilled (and it has been VERY hit and miss so far), I thought I will mention several audiobooks that I plan to tackle this year and, hopefully, this will keep me on track and listen to them! While, at the same time, allow me flexibility to listen to others that catch my eye (I'm going to do this with my physical and ebook TBR as well as there are a few that I want to try! Plus, I will put affiliate links to Bookshop UK but will put a star next to titles.).
The first shouldn't come as a surprise as I bang on about listening to this series every time I write one of these: The Diviners by Libba Bray*. I am going to do this series! And I think I have an idea on how to do it. Starting next month, I am going to listen to one book a month in the lead up to Halloween (If I miss this, Midwinter at the latest, but Halloween is my endgame). I think this will be doable and allow me some flexibility as well. Plus, I have listened to longer audiobooks and plan to listen to long audiobooks so I can't use length as an excuse! I WILL DO THIS SERIES THIS YEAR!!!
Because I've now checked and I wrote a post at the start of the year, I will dodge some of the titles I mentioned and mention two audiobooks that I started the series this year and I want to continue: The Great Hunt by Robert Jordan* (the second book in the Wheel of Time series) and The Tropic of Serpents by Marie Brennan* (the second book in the Memoirs of Lady Trent series). I really enjoyed starting these series (Eye of the World was the beginning of a meaty fantasy that I've been craving while Natural History of Dragons was more whimsical and have a bite of humour I like) so would love to continue with these.
One of my favourite audiobook listens last year was Marple: Expert of Wickedness by Mark Aldright, so it would make sense for me to do his other Agatha Christie character deepdive: Poirot: The Greatest Detective in the World*. Seeing as Poirot appears in 33 novels, 2 plays, 51 short stories and this spawned how many adaptions in film, TV, radio, video games, anime among others, this is going to make a fascinating listen.
I have a lot of audiobooks via publishers on NetGalley so, of course, I would like to tackle a good few of these. I have several that I have my eye on and would like to attempt in the next few months. Two that are on my radar are Upon A Starlit Tide by Kell Woods* and The Mercy Makers by Tessa Gratton*. I'll be truthful to you: I mainly requested these from covers because of the covers. Now, I have tried not to look too much into what these are about but both have a fantastical element to them so that should keep me happy.
I just realised I have a lot of fantasy on my audiobook TBR, and while that's true, I do have a good few crime/thrillers to listen to as well. I have two that is high up on my list: Every Time I Go On Vacation, Someone Dies by Catherine Mack* and Give Him To Me by Dorothy Koomson*. Yes, these are at very different ends of the crime/thriller genre spectrum, but both look like huge fun for me. Plus, new authors so hopefully, I will fall in love with them and read their other books!
Am going to leave the neverending audiobook TBR list here as I would like some surprise/mystery for myself (I am a mood reader, of course!), but is there any audiobooks that I have listed above that you guys think I should push up my audiobook radar? Or any audiobooks in general that I need to keep my eye on? Let me know in the comments and happy listening!
