New Year's Book Tag

Just before Christmas, I was tagged by Emily from alwaysopinionatedgirl to take part in the Winter Tag. However, I kinda forgot to do it (I hope to attack it in the next few weeks, if not... oops!) but I saw this and went, "Till I have a moment to do SavidgeReads's Page 112 Tag (so next month or so as I really want to do this!), this would be fun to do!" So, blame Bookables with this tag, but let's go!

How many books are you planning to read in 2018?
Right off the bat, let's say I dislike this question. I don't normally like setting challenges on how many books am going to read. Usually, when I do them on Goodreads, I usually set the bar quite low and change it once I bet it. So, am going to say one, just because I want no pressure. Plus, once you seen answer to a later question, you might see why I don't want pressure on myself.
Name 5 books that you didn’t get to this year but want to make a priority in 2018.
OH! Where do I start?! I have a long list, so taking the list down to five is hard. Am going to tell you guys the five that jump straight to mind and most/all of the reasons for why I didn't get round to reading are either linked to THE FEAR or just getting sidetracked. You can guess which books these come under as I have made no secret of these on my social media, but before you scream at me over one or two titles... I know... I know...

THE HATE U GIVE by Angie Thomas

NOUGHTS AND CROSSES by Malorie Blackman

SIMON VS THE HOMO-SAPIENS AGENDA by Becky Albertalli

THE FALLEN CHILDREN by David Owen

POISON STUDY by Maria V Sndyer

What genre do you want to read more of?
There are genres and books I do wish to attempt in 2018. I have them pencilled in my head. But the genre I am leaning the most to is adult fantasy. I love fantasy and I feel very at home reading fantasy so it seems natural for me to go there and attempt to read Trudi Canavan, JRR Tolkien (no idea why!), Ursula K. Le Guin, N. K. Jemisin, Jean M. Auel (yes, I know she's historical, but there is some fantasy elements, right?) and try and read more Terry Pratchett and Charlaine Harris.

Name 3 non book related goals for 2018.
Oh, I hate these types of goals/resolutions as I break them within a few days. But I am a bit of a pessimist so I would like to be more optimism and more hopeful. I am going to try!

Another thing is I want to go to more bookish events. I always say "I'll go to this" but never can for one reason or another (work or money) but this year, am going to try and go to YALC or book awards or just travel in general. Yeah, let's say travel.

And third: stop being so hard on myself. I always feel like I'm not good enough at times. I'm not a good enough son, brother, uncle, grandson, nephew, cousin, lover, saver of money, not good looking enough, am just not good enough. So, this year, am going to try and give myself a break. I doubt I will be truly successful, but I will try.

What’s a book you’ve had forever that you still need to read?
Where do I start? If I look at my physical TBR, it's The Pledge by Kimberly Derting. I bought this years ago and it's signed. I do want to read this, but am in no real rush.

On my kindle, the book I've had the longest is Witch Child by Celia Rees and Poison Study by Maria V. Snyder (both of these I am making plans to read in 2018 [see above questions].

But the main book I keep coming back to for this is The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. I keep circling back to this book in one form or another. I buy a copy for self, I get given it as a friend and every time, I get rid of it due to THE FEAR. But this year... oh, this year...

One word that you're hoping 2018 will be:
Hopeful.

Tag a friend!
NO! NOT THIS ONE!!! I have to many people I want to tag for this. Ok, I can't do one so let me do three or four. I can do that, right? (Please don't kill me, you guys!)

  1. Yes for The Hate U Give. I thought I was pretty good on not acknowledging color and looking at people but it showed why we don't have a choice but to look at color.

Also, I'm saving my butt off for YALC. See you there?
