So, with this, I will show off a mix of ebooks I've bought and kindly gifted by publishers (in exchange for an honest review/reaction - I know I go on about this and I feel like this goes without saying), though I sense this will be more titles I have purchased as my eproof list scares me when I try to look them over! I, hopefully, have a nice mix of titles and genres for you to see.
Plus, like before, I will put affiliate links to Bookshop UK but will put a star next to most titles I mention, so you can find out more about these titles art your leisure.
The first few should be obvious on why on this list as I mention they all the time when I do these list: Witch Child by Celia Rees*, Poison Study by Maria V Snyder* and The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller*. Oh yes, these titles are STILL on my kindle TBR, angrily waiting for their turn. And I will get round to them all. I know I will, but these have become titles that I am a little apprehensive over now. I've had these for so long now that if I read them and don't like them, it's going to feel like a waste of time/space of kindle memory/bandwidth in my head so I need to get over this and just go for it!
I, somehow, got an eproof to a title that I'm quite excited to read. So much so, I have preordered a physical copy of this when it comes out later in the year: Rainforest by Michelle Paver*. Now, I have read a good few of her works (I started reading her Chronicles of the Ancient Darkness series and really enjoyed myself [though I have stopped after the fourth in the series Outcast for some unknown reason so need to get back into that as well as Diana Wynne Jones's Chrestomanci series, which I stopped halfway through The Lives of Christopher Chant]), and I do have several of her other titles on my TBR (both physical and audiobook) but Rainforest got me very excited. The idea of a ghost story set the rainforest sounds utterly creepy! And this comes from someone who isn't much of a horror fan so I am ready for the creepy.
I feel guilty that I haven't read much queer books this Pride month (are we counting The Talented Mr Ripley, which I have spent over a month reading?), but I do have several that need to come out of the closet of my kindle TBR (see what I did there?). The main title: The Darkness Outside Us by Eliot Schrefer*. This is a mix of several genres: scifi/thriller/romance. All my cup of tea, so am hoping for Illuminae vibes but gayer.
This is high up but every time I want to go near it, the subject matter becomes big news in the US. Nineteen Minutes by Jodi Picoult*. This story is about the nineteen minutes of a school shooting and the aftermath of it, as well as the why of it happening. I read or watched on Instragram somewhere that some schools ban this book from their school libraries, not become of the issues of school shooting the raising the question about gun control, but because there is a page that talks about date rape. So, this is going to be a heavy read but one I think I need to do (there are so many of these on my kindle but this is quite high on my mental reading TBR).
This is on my kindle and it keeps catching my eye since I bought it. The Swordhand Omnibus by Marcus Sedgwick (My Swordhand is Singing* & The Kiss of Death). Now, I bought this bind-up of the duology several months after the author's death and I know that this is a huge fan favourite of his writing (as well as The Book of Dead Days duology). Barring that, I have no idea what this is about, but I do want to try and read it during October as it feels like the right time. I do have other titles of his on my Amazon wishlist and they are very different in genres (one's historical fiction, the other feels more horror), but I won't go near them till I have read these two.
And, before you all shout at me, I haven't forgotten Robin Hobbs's Assassin's Apprentice* This is still high on my ebook TBR list. Same with some of books I have in the Graceling Realm series by Kristin Cashore (starting with Graceling*). I just need to be in the right frame of mind for these titles (if I don't attempt to read these in the next 18 months, I need to have a big old think about my book/ebook buying habits).
Any of these titles that you think I need to get a wiggle on and read? Let me know as would love to hear your thoughts on the above titles or if there are any other titles you think I Need to add to my TBR (or if you follow me on Goodreads or StoryGraph and know my TBR if there are any I need to push up!)
